Valentines Day With Two Hawks

The Phoenix Fridas, Arizona’s popular, award-winning Latina art collective, are bringing a special sense of beauty, vision and wit to Second Friday Night Out, Feb. 14, 2014 from 5 to 9 p.m. at Two Hawks Gallery in downtown Mesa.

Though the gallery might be a little off the usual Second Friday art walk path, strollers just need to follow the hypnotic rhythm of drums. Gallery owners Alex and Nick Maldonado will be adding dramatic percussion to Two Hawks Gallery’s romantic gift offerings. The gallery is located at 213 W. Main Street, Mesa.

The Fridas will be in front of the gallery, selling handmade jewelry, paintings, prints and crafts tailored to be that special last-minute Valentine’s Day gift.

The group of artists last visited the East Valley in July 2012 and is looking forward to reconnecting to fans in the area, as well as making new ones.

“We never know who is going to turn up at our events,” said Carmen “Frida Beader” Guerrero. “Often our fans turn up dressed as our group’s muse, the late Frida Kahlo, which makes us so very happy.”

A resident of Mesa, Ms. Guerrero is a regular exhibiting artist at Two Hawks’ Second Friday. Other members of the Phoenix Fridas include Kathy Cano-Murillo, Emily Costello, Anita Mabante Leach, Gloria Casillas-Martinez, Analisa Serna, Monique Sanderson Mata, Diana Calderon, and Veronica Verdugo Lomeli.

The Phoenix Fridas can be found on social media: follow us on Twitter (@phoenixfridas), Like us on Facebook and online at The Phoenix Fridas blog.
